When this sweltering, barren wilderness comes into mind people think about an endless stretch of sand, incredible heat, camel trains, and dangerous hidden animals. The Sahara Desert covers the entire northern section of the African continent, from Egypt to Morocco it is clearly visible from space. It could cover the continental United States.

Even though I’ve never been to this region of the world, and most people would think that there is nothing to do here. You are sadly mistaken, there is plenty of pleasures around even for adrenaline junkies. Also, many travel wholesalers and tour operators conduct their business or camping trips in the Sahara.

  1. Sand-Boarding. As we are familiar with water boarding and snow boarding, this is the equivalent activity in the Sahara. It requires patrons to select a mode of transport (foam board or a mat), removing your socks, lay down on your stomach, and sliding down to the best sand dune possible. The experience can be thrilling, but you need to careful of not allowing sand into your eyes!
  2. Buggy Driving. Steering the wheel with this mechanical contraption will allow you to explore the dusty wilderness in accelerating speeds and this is not for the fainthearted. Camel rides should be the preference for timid travelers.
  3. Trekking. This could be the most arduous activity that tourist can undertake. A flat version of hiking Mount Everest, but this is no ordinary walk in the park. Challenges can include sandstorms, extreme temperatures, lack of hydration resources (food and water), loneliness, and disorientation.

The best gateway to this unforgiving landscape from Toronto is to Cairo or Casablanca. However, clients will have to connect in either Montreal, Houston, London Heathrow, Rome, Frankfurt, Munich, or Istanbul.

Airlines from Toronto to Cairo or Casablanca:

Air Canada

Alitalia

Egyptair

Lufthansa

Royal Air Morocco

Accommodations in the Sahara Desert will vary on certain circumstances. Factors can include the type of journey clients have chosen (IE: Overnight camping, Motorized rallying), or the nearest city and airport. Below are hyperlinks of tour operators and highly respected accommodations in the desolate wilderness.
