What is Wingsuit Flying? Wingsuit flying is the extreme adventure sport of gliding through the air using a wingsuit which adds surface area to human body to enable a significant increase in lift. This unusual sport is not for the faint-of-heart.
Special Training: In order to fly a wingsuit in the U.S. at a USPA Group Member drop zone, you’ll need to complete at least 200 jumps in 18 months (or 500 total jumps).
Where it takes place? At the highest mountain. One of the best place that you can experience wingsuit flying is the “Eiger”. The Eiger is a 3,970 metres (13,020 ft) mountain in the Bernese Alps in the heart of Switzerland. The northern side of the mountain rises about 9,800 feet above Grindelwald. It has the beautiful meadows and valleys of the Bernese oberland. The mountain has so much rich climbing history and it felt amazing to step foot as well. Wingsuit flying taker has to climb to a mushroom shaped rock in order to fly.
The feeling: The feeling of taking this sport can be different for each individual. One of the wingsuit pilot share his experience of it. He said It’s like being a missile with your head on the front. It’s pretty surreal, and a very gratifying experience and feeling of personal achievement. Just like any other vehicular pursuit it can be as relaxing or extreme as you make it. Its like a driving and you will not think about your own death while you enjoy this sport.
